Founded in 2001, Kaucher and Associates, P.A. has over 24+ years of proven expertise in guiding dental practices through financial assistance and strategic business advising. We handle all aspects of finance, such as tax and accounting, wealth and risk planning, dental practice transitions, and even employment, human resources, and strategic marketing.

Our mission is to guide dental professionals towards business success—whatever that looks like for them. Success can mean a lot of different things for each practice. We’ve guided dental practices at all stages of their business cycle, from dental startups, to established practices, and even those looking to transition out of their practice.

The bee is also a symbol very near & dear to our Founder, BJ Kaucher. “My older sister lost her battle to cancer over 5 years ago. As we rallied around her, you could often hear our entire family using the bee as a symbol of the journey. The hospital room was her hive and as we said goodbye, we knew she would always be buzzing around and taking care of us too – that was who she was! So, a nod to my sister, as I know she continues to be by my side every day.”

BJ Kaucher

Owner, Kaucher & Associates

BJ Kaucher is the proud owner of Kaucher & Associates and a certified public accountant in South Carolina and Ohio. A graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, BJ has been dedicated to providing accounting, tax, and business advisory services to the dental industry since 1999. Her expertise spans tax consulting for small businesses, medical and dental groups, family limited partnerships, and individuals. As the Carolina representative for the Academy of Dental CPAs, BJ is part of a select group of 26 CPA firms nationally that offer progressive services to dental professionals. She’s even shared her knowledge as a guest lecturer at The Ohio State University Dental School. Outside the office, BJ enjoys relaxing by the pool, traveling to Ohio to visit family with her husband, and spending quality time with her beloved cat, Mr. Biscuit.

Dave Kaucher

CEO

Dave Kaucher is the CEO of our affiliate Wealth Management Company, Spectrum Wealth Advisors. He specialized in retirement plans for our Kaucher & Associates dental clients. He is also the President of our affiliate company, Kaucher Dental Transitions. At KDT he focuses on providing our dental clients with practice valuation services, buyer representation, and brokerage buying and selling of dental practices. In his spare time, Dave and his wife BJ enjoy traveling, fly fishing, golfing, and rooting on our Ohio State Buckeyes.

Christy Shealy

Tax Manager

Meet Christy Shealy, our talented Tax Manager at Kaucher & Associates, where she has been making an impact for over 20 years. Christy is an expert in preparing corporate and personal tax returns, and her extensive experience allows her to provide valuable insights across the firm. Outside of the office, Christy enjoys quality time with her family, unwinding by the water, or tackling creative DIY projects.

Donna Hornsby

Staff Accountant

Donna Hornsby is a CPA and has her B.S. in Accounting from the University of South Carolina. After a 13 year hiatus to be a full time mom, she joined what was then Coleman & Ureda, PA in 2004 as a part time employee. She enjoys working closely with her clients and strives to provide them with the best customer service experience. Her attention to detail and her accounting background are just two of the many assets she brings to our team. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with family, which includes her husband and 3 children. She especially loves spending time with (and spoiling) her 2 grandchildren.

Ally Maddy

Staff Accountant

Alexandria (Ally) Maddy is a staff accountant within the company. She interned for two years before officially joining our team. She is responsible for maintaining and analyzing financial records, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and preparing financial statements. She assists clients in managing accounts payable and receivable while also evaluating and reconciling bank statements. She provides BJ with reports to provide guidance for tax procedures and business analysis. Although she enjoys her role at Kaucher & Associates, she mostly enjoys spending time with her family and attending Ohio State Football games. GO BUCKS!

Sarah Martin

SALT Manager & Internal Project Manager

Sarah Martin wears multiple hats in our office. She is our State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager and Internal Project Manager. She is responsible for overseeing the Business Personal Property Tax Listings, Sales & Use Tax Returns, Unclaimed Property Reporting among other business filings. Internally she manages the flow of operations relating to all projects. Sarah’s passion for continual improvement on internal systems is an asset to our team. Sarah loves coffee, the outdoors and family time; her happiest memories often include all three.

Alicia Gibbs

Executive Assistant

Alicia Gibbs is the executive assistant to BJ Kaucher, and tax coordinator who has been with the company for 11 years. Her primary role is to provide efficient & professional administrative support to BJ and ensure timely and accurate filing of federal, state & local tax returns through E*Filing. While these are her primary roles for the firm, as most clients have come to know, she is the go-to for all things Kaucher & Associates. While this may be her professional role, her favorite role is being a mother to her 25-year-old son and gaining a more spiritual relationship with God. Her favorite past times are traveling and spending time with family. “Chaos, Panic, Disorder…my job here is done”

Lona Hutto

Staff Accountant

Lona Hutto is a Staff Accountant that has been with the firm since October 2020. Her duties include processing monthly financials and QuickBooks support for our clients. Lona graduated from Midlands Technical College in 2009 and has over 15 years of accounting experience. She is the proud momma of two cats, PugsLee (16) and Moo (7). In her spare time, Lona enjoys going to music concerts, baking sweets, and spending time with friends and family.

Amanda Davis

Administrative Assistant

As the first point of contact at Kaucher & Associates, Amanda Davis ensures clients are connected to the right person for their needs. Her friendly demeanor and organizational skills help keep the office running efficiently. Outside of work, Amanda is a dedicated mother to her three children and the proud owner of a personal “petting zoo” that includes rabbits, snakes, cats, dogs, and birds. In her free time, she enjoys spending time at home, taking day trips with her husband, and tending to her menagerie of pets.

Director of Marketing & Development

As Director of Marketing and Development, Mackenzie is the driving force behind our marketing and growth strategies. With a deep passion for enhancing brand presence, Mackenzie designs and implements innovative marketing plans that align with our business goals and engage and resonate with our audience. Beyond her professional role, Mackenzie values quality time with her family, is dedicated to helping others, and enjoys traveling.

Jarrett Coleman

Internal Accounting Auditor & New Client Coordinator

Internal Accounting Auditor & New Client Coordinator Jarrett has been with the company since 2009 and is involved in the bookkeeping and corporate tax departments. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the University of South Carolina and has continued his post baccalaureate education by completing additional courses in accounting and tax. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking and being outdoors.

Sue Ureda CPA

Original Owner

Sue Ureda is an original partner from the Coleman & Ureda days. She works part-time with the Tax Team and prepares business and individual tax returns, tax projections and sets salaries for our many clients. She enjoys her three granddaughters on a very part-time basis, likes to swim and walk, drink mochas, and escapes by reading and streaming mysteries and historical series. She loves to travel when she can and hopes to return to Europe before she can’t. Sue loves the Kaucher & Associates team members and is happy she can still work with all of them.

Brandon Mercer

Client Service Accountant

Brandon Mercer joined the team in 2017 as a Client Service Accountant. He earned his associate degree in accounting with honors from Midland’s Technical College. Brandon’s ability to identify and solve problems makes him a unique asset for our clients. In his spare time, Brandon enjoys spending time with his family and going to the movies. His movie trivia is impressive, and we can always count on him to provide a detailed movie review!
